Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) is a phrase often used in corporate and academic settings to draw attention to the unfair treatment of frequently marginalized persons in the United States. Although cultural competence and racial equality training are advised to assist employees in uncovering their prejudice, many businesses do not feel there is a problem inside their culture.
This lapse in judgment adds to a failure to recognize the emotional burden that people of color and other underprivileged groups experience. DEIB is far more than affirmative action or the belief that you have the potential to improve the lives of underrepresented people—DEIB includes accepting responsibility for how one's actions affect others.
